Since beginning my home based business in 2000 there have been many changes in my life. Some were great and some not so great. As they say that is life. Some of the best changes that I have made have been personal changes to help myself become better by taking an active role in personal development and learning every single day. Removing the stress inducing things that most people are addicted too like cable news or news in general, politics and all the negativity that surrounds that.
While working from home some of the other changes are getting more serious about health and what we consume in the way of food. Going out to eat often is not good for anyone’s health, and we try to eat things that we know the ingredients to. Secondly spending quality time with our family is important to us and we try to take time out of our day to do just that. Even if it’s a 30-45 minute walk we can talk about or dreams and goals as well as encourage each other to more be more successful.
If you want to get from where you are to where you want to be, it’s going to involve change. You must be the one to make changes. The world will appear to change around you, but really, it’s about the changes you are willing to make.
Most of the time, these are some of the things that need changed – Your thoughts – this is a critical area.
1. Your core beliefs about yourself. These are the things you’ve made up in your mind (I’m not good enough; not smart enough; etc.) Many people have been brought up that it’s conceited to feel good about your self and to show it. Others are so introverted that they would never even dream of taking a leadership role. One way to get better at this is to join a local Toastmasters International.
2. The people you listen to – if they aren’t encouraging you and moving you forward. Why listen? Why not surround yourself with people that want you to succeed instead of dragging you down with negativity. We’re not saying get rid of your friends, just minimize your exposure to those that wouldn’t want to see you succeed. They say your income is the average of your 5 closest friends. If you want to bring your income up, look around you and see what’s dragging you down.
3. Your habits – these are not hard to change.
What you watch; read and listen to – TV; books, radio, etc.
The news can be a great source of negativity. It’s extremely de-motivating. And, believe it or not, you can live without it.
It’s not easy, in the beginning, but it is worth it. It takes 21 days to develop a new habit. Decide today on some new habits you want to create and get excited about the positive effect those changes will have in your life.
Most people find that giving up TV frees up plenty of extra time to work a business. Most people can find the 10 – 15 hours weekly it requires to successfully build a home business just in that time alone.
3. You can achieve anything you set out to achieve. It is possible. And, it requires you to make the decision, chart the course and then set out on that course. You may veer from course at times, but hold steady to your decision to achieve your goal and get yourself back on track as quickly as possible each time you stray.
“If the mind can conceive the body can achieve”
Start today to map out the changes you are committed to making in your life. It’s okay to start with small, baby steps, but don’t be afraid to stretch yourself outside of your bubble. Stop getting “ready” and start taking action.
Life is not a dress rehearsal. Every hour and day that passes is time that cannot be reclaimed. You are in charge of every hour in your day, so make it count.
Mahatma Gandhi said it best – “You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
Change starts with you, make it start today.
Our reading and listening library grows every single week. We are constantly thirsting for more knowledge about our business, and other areas of personal development. We even read books on nature, finance, being happy and more. There is so much out there to help anyone at success and having a better life.
You can get started on your personal development journey by reading some of the same books that have allowed me to have continued success over the years. Before I started my home business I never read one single personal development book. Today I read several books a month.
Change may be fast or it may be slow. Change is happening all around you. The question is are you adapting to the change? Are you changing yourself?
Here is to your success!
